Conceived as an uncategorisable object, this book lies somewhere between an essay, an artist’s edition and sensory research. The text unfolds in the form of fragments, thoughts and intuitions, blending philosophical references with  free-form writing. The images do not merely illustrate the text but engage in a dialogue with it, extending the questions raised by the text through a visual approach. Some sections of the book are purely visual.
MARIE NONNIS


is a programmer, DJ, studying herbalism and author based in Brussels. Trained in the philosophy of art, she conducts research into listening practices, ambient music and forms of perception. Her work combines theoretical thinking with sound experimentation, spanning writing, programming and performance.

SIDONIE RONFARD


is a Paris-based photographer and a graduate of the École des Arts Décoratifs. Her work explores the subtle relationships between image, perception and environment. Through intuitive and atmospheric forms, she develops a practice in which photography becomes a space for experience and resonance.

This book explores ambient music as an experience of immersion and resonance. Sound becomes a membrane, an atmosphere, a sensory landscape. At the crossroads of phenomenology, shamanism and contemporary listening practices, ambient music emerges as a way of inhabiting the world: an open form of attention in which the body, space and time are transformed.

In a context characterised by a constant acceleration of pace and a growing detachment from our environment, this project proposes a shift: to slow down, to listen, and to relearn how to perceive what surrounds us. Listening then becomes an active act, an immersion, a passage to another place, where we learn to situate ourselves anew in the world.

TWO EVENTS CENTRED AROUND AMBIENT

The publication will be accompanied by two events in Brussels and Paris. These will provide an opportunity to discover the book, meet the people behind it, collect pre-ordered copies and purchase copies. They will also offer a chance to explore the book further through an exhibition and sound-based activities.

SPASS Gallery

The inaugural launch of Ambient will take place on 17 December in Brussels, at the SPASS Gallery.

To mark the occasion, an exhibition by Sidonie Ronfard will be on display until early January; it will be accompanied by a musical performance at the opening night.

9 & 10 JANUARY 2027

A second event will take place in Paris on 9 and 10 January, in the form of a weekend of gatherings centred on Ambient music.

Readings, listening sessions and discussions will build on the ideas explored in the book, in a setting that encourages exchange and discovery.
